Round the Bozburun peninsula

You'll head south to Serçe Limanı, a sheltered natural harbour where an eleventh-century ship sank with a cargo of glass, now shown in the Bodrum museum. At Bozukkale you can walk up from the anchorage to the Rhodian fortress walls of ancient Loryma. Then north into the Hisarönü Gulf to Bozburun, where families have built wooden boats beside their houses for decades, and on to Selimiye.

East to Dalyan and Göcek

You'll head east to Ekincik, where a local boat can take you up the reed-lined Dalyan channel to Kaunos and its temple-fronted rock tombs. From there it is a morning's run to the Göcek islands and Tersane, an island with the ruins of an abandoned village. In Bedri Rahmi bay, named after one of Turkey's best-known painters, you'll see the fish he painted on a rock there in 1974.
